The match is made of a steel tube with a cotton face and a spark starter at the end. The element holding the match is also the threaded cap that closes the gas tank.

The match and wick are constantly immersed in gasoline. To light a fire, simply unscrew the cap, remove the match from the gasoline, and strike a spark by rubbing the igniter against a flint. The gasoline ignites with a strong, bright flame.
